Man BRO trucks are expensive. I wonder if the costs of exporting them from the US would make it lucrative to send them down under.

$35k US is....roughly ~$43k AUD. I'd love to be paying that price for something the size of a Silverado.

US too! you lucky to get out the door for under 40k USD these days...

RHD conversions add to the price. Not many people run bro trucks here, and there's no 'bro truck' mentality. A ute/truck is used for work, it needs to be cheap, easy to fix and easy to run.

Are RHD conversions required for import in Australia?

Yep. Only LHD cars we can drive are pre 70s I think.

Ouch, Its a shame import laws are so strict in both our countries. I would kill for the chance to import a BA Falcon XR8.

This is from Vicroads so applies in Victoria, not sure what other states rules are:
The Standards for Registration specify that the steering wheel of a vehicle must not be located to the left of the centre line of the vehicle.
However, vehicles over 30 years old with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of less than 4.5 tonnes are exempt fromthis requirement. These vehicles must still comply with the Standards for Registration applicable at their dateof manufacture and be fitted with headlights which are suitable for a right hand drive vehicle (i.e. dip to the left).
All other left hand drive vehicles may not be registered in Victoria except in the cases of:-
(a) vehicles approved by VicRoads for registration as Engineering or Market Evaluation vehicles;
(b) vehicles primarily built for a special purpose that have to be left hand drive or dual control to fulfil
that purpose;
In the case of a left hand drive vehicle being one described in (a) or (b) the words "Left Hand Drive" must be clearly and legibly displayed in letters at least 75mm high and of proportionate width on the rear of the vehicle. Registration will be conditional and other conditions, including a requirement that both left hand and right hand external rear vision mirrors be fitted, may apply.

Note,
'because race car' isn't considered a special purpose.

Haha, but a real race car doesn't need rego.
BTW that's stupid crazy money for the Silverado but people buy them! I know a bloke with 2 Dodge Rams and some kind of chev ute, his vehicles cost more than the house he's in! His newest Ram was around $180,00 AUD! Oh and his wife has one of those Chrysler soft tops, the one with the corrugated iron(alloy actually) bonnets. Not sure what that cost but it would be a stupid amount.

Crossfire? My father was looking at one.
I said the purchase would be grounds for me to have him locked up in a loony bin.

Yeah that's the one. The reason I mentioned the bonnet was because the car had collision and the alloy bonnet was un-repairable and getting one from the states took forever as apparently Chrysler would only produce spare bonnets once they had enough orders! Sounds crazy but that's what I was told. Your dad should find a mirror and have a good look at himself!

I imported a brand new 12' Boss 302 stang from galpin in California back 2012. Landed in Australia, after import tax, it owed me 60k. car cost 48k U.S. Not so bad. Then the conversion cost me 46k, because electric steering rack, then they added rego, stamp duty, Gst and luxury car tax based on the cars market value of 145k in aus at the time. It cost me 114k all up. Fucking expensive exercise. sold it late last year for 88k. Thanks ford Australia for announcing mustang early. Resale dropped like a stone.

I pity everyone that's done the conversion dance with them in the last few years, as you said, resale price just died.
I was looking to do the same with a Camaro, but I couldn't justify doing it when I could just go pick up something like an M3 or GT-R for the same price.

It was a fantastic car, and in crowd terms, it made Ferraris look as comman as a commodore. It was a great ownership experience, but I kept it 12 months too long.
